Prof. Mohamad Sawan

Mohamad Sawan, Fellow of the Royal Society of Sciences of Canada (FRSC), Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (FCAE), Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada (FEIC), and Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (LFIEEE), is an internationally renowned scientist in the field of smart medical devices. He has made significant contributions in implantable and wearable medical devices based on smart microsystems. Professor Sawan received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from University of Sherbrooke in 1990, was a postdoctoral fellow in Biomedical Engineering in McGill University in 1991, and was Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Full Professor from 1991 to 2018 in Polytechnique, the Engineering School of University of Montreal. Professor Sawan was awarded a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Smart Medical Devices from 2001 to 2015. He was Scientific Director of the multi-University Microsystems Strategic Alliance of Quebec (1999-2018). He was Co-Founder, Associate Editor and Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Circuits and Systems from 2016 to 2019, and he is founder and Editor-in-Chief of the ELSP Neuroelectronics Journal.

Professor Sawan joined the School of Engineering of Westlake University as a Chair Professor in 2018. He is currently the Founder and Director of the Center of Excellence in Biomedical Research on Advanced Integrated-on-chips Neurotechnologies (CenBRAIN Neurotech) in Westlake University.

Professor Sawan is the founder of the flagship IEEE International NEWCAS conference and co-founder of the International IEEE-BioCAS and IEEE-AICAS Conferences. He hosted the 2016 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS) and the 2020 IEEE International Medicine, Biology and Engineering Conference (EMBC) as well as the 2023 IEEE International Conference on Artificial Intelligence Circuits and Systems. He was vice-president of publications of the EEE Circuits and Systems Society.

Prof. Zhiwei Huang

Southwest Medical University, China   


Huang Zhiwei, Male, Professor, Ph.D., Master's Supervisor, currently serves as Vice Dean of the School of Medical Information and Engineering at Southwest Medical University. He is the Academic Leader of the Sichuan Provincial Key Laboratory of Central Nervous System Drugs (Co-established by Provincial and Municipal Departments) and an Academic Committee Member of the Luzhou Municipal Key Laboratory for Medical-Engineering-Informatics Integration and Translational Medicine. He is also a member of the Teaching Guidance Committee for Biomedical Engineering Programs and the Emerging Engineering Education Teaching Guidance Committee under the Sichuan Provincial Department of Education. With long-term expertise in teaching and research in biomedical engineering, his research focuses on biomedical signals and instruments and medical image processing. He has participated in 2 national-level research projects, led 3 provincial/ministerial-level projects, and directed 3 departmental/municipal-level projects. Over the past five years, he has published 15 SCI-indexed papers as the first author or corresponding author. His notable honors include: Second Prize of the Sichuan Provincial Teaching Achievement Award, Third Prize of the Science and Technology Innovation Progress Award (China Association of Medicine Education).

Prof. Yuzhong Peng

Zhejiang Wanli University, China


Peng Yuzhong, with a Ph.D. from Fudan University, is currently a professor at the College of Big Data and Software Engineering, Zhejiang Wanli University, and concurrently serves as the Director of the Artificial Intelligence and Biomedical Information Research Center at Guangxi Academy of Sciences. He is a member of the Bioinformatics and Artificial Life Committee of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence, a corresponding member of the Bioinformatics Committee of the China Computer Federation, a member of the Federal Data and Federal Learning Professional Committee of the Chinese Association of Automation, and the Executive Director of the Guangxi Association for Artificial Intelligence, concurrently serving as the Executive Deputy Director of the Biomedical Information Committee. He is also a corresponding review expert for funding projects in the Information Science, Earth Science, and Medical Science departments of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, as well as a reviewer for several domestic and international authoritative academic journals, including the Journal of Computer Science. He serves as a program committee member for the CCF-recommended B-class international top conference IEEE BIBM. He has led two National Natural Science Foundation projects and four provincial-level research projects. As the first author or corresponding author, he has published over 50 papers in journals and academic conferences such as IEEE TMM, Briefings in Bioinformatics, IEEE BIBM, Information Sciences, and Knowledge-Based Systems. As the first author, he has received the Best Student Paper Award at IEEE BIBM 2019 and the Bagui Artificial Intelligence Science and Technology Award.
